10 Ways to Add a Touch of Mysticism to Your Vision Board

An old favorite, the vision board. A great way to keep your goals and dreams within view and to remind yourself what you are working towards, whether it be internal or external goals.

Vision boards can be great fun. I usually create mine at the beginning of the new year, because it helps me look forward to the never-ending month of January. I’ve been creating vision boards and doing visual journaling for 14 years. As a visual person, sometimes it’s easier to get my emotions out with an image instead of words. It’s also fun to look back at all the prior years and see how much I’ve evolved.

If you’ve recently gone through a spiritual awakening or have been discovering the metaphysical for quite sometime, adding a mystic touch to your board will help you create the energy, you want to bring into your life or the new year.

Here are 10 ways to add a touch of mysticism to your board:

1. Tarot/Oracle Cards

Tarot and Oracle cards are a great tool to be used for divination or connecting to your spirit team. If you’re not quite ready for divination they can be used for self-reflection. Oracle cards are simpler and easier to understand if you’re just starting out. Tarot has a few more layers and can be used to get more specific answers, like timelines.

If you already pull a card for your day or do a whole spread, why not do it for the board? I personally pull a card for a theme of the year, this year I pulled the Empress, which I believe she will assist me with my creative endeavors.

Below are a few examples to add to your board if you want to choose the energy going on your board versus your spirit guides direction. I included the upside interpretation of the cards only, if you want to include a downside version of the card, go for it. You can also use the cards that have a reputation, like the death card, to symbolize change or transformation.

Major Arcana

  • The Sun: Brings positivity, optimism, and a YES energy to your year.
  • The Fool: New beginnings and taking a leap of faith.
  • The High Priestess: The divine feminine energy, developing psychic gifts and intuition.
  • The Star: Going after your dreams.

Minor Arcana

  • Two of Wands: Getting out of your comfort zone.
  • Six of Wands: Success, accomplishment and recognition.
  • Three of Cups: Joy, friendship and communal support.

Bonus: If you are a follower of the Destiny Matrix and have your chart, you can include your tarot card for the current year.

Runes

Runes are ancient letters/symbols used by the Germanic and Nordic tribes. Traditionally made out of stone and wood pieces. They can be used for writing, protection and divination. Runes are a little less common and more direct than tarot or oracle cards, but still carry great messages. Below are a few great runes to add to your board.

  • Fehu: Wealth, abundance and new beginnings.
  • Kenaz: Inner light, vision, knowledge, creativity and breakthrough.
  • Gebo: Gift, partnership and sharing.
  • Wunjo: Joy, fulfillment and celebration.
  • Sowilo: Success, inspiration, guidance and vitality.

3. Numerology

What is a personal year? It’s the year an individual is in during numerology’s nine-year cycle and dictates what energetic theme you will have for that year. There are two different philosophies from when the cycle starts and ends. The first, is that it runs from birthday to birthday and the second is that it runs from new year to new year, really it’s up to preference. To calculate your personal year, you will add your birth month, birth date and the current year together and then reduce the number down to a single digit. See below for an example:

Birth Month + Birth Date + Current Year = Personal Year

11 + 23 + 2026

1 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 17

1 + 7 = 8 (Personal Year)

Personal year significance:

  • One: Starting a new cycle or theme in your life for the next nine years.
  • Two: Working on partnerships, having new people enter your life and balance.
  • Three: Creating, communicating and bringing fun and joy into your life.
  • Four: Establishing stability and a solid foundation. Working hard and having discipline.
  • Five: Having more freedom and adventure. A big change, like possibly moving.
  • Six: A focus on nurturing relationships and being responsible.
  • Seven: Spiritual growth or going inwards for the year.
  • Eight: Transforming your finances and finding your personal power.
  • Nine: Ending of a cycle, the theme you’ve been working on for the past nine years. Letting go and preparing for a new cycle.

4. Angel Numbers

Sticking with the numbers theme. Angel numbers are a way that your spirit team communicates with you, to let you know that they are around and that you are in flow with the Universe. You usually start to see them at the beginning of the awakening process. Angel numbers have increased with popularity in the recent years with more people awakening and with the help of Kyle Gray books.

Do you see repeating numbers? Do you have a favorite? Below I listed common numbers and meanings for each number sequence, but feel free to tune into your intuition when you see them and see what it means for you.

5. Signs From the Other Side

Besides numbers, the other side loves to communicate through symbols and metaphors, to let you know that they are still around watching over you. You can see number combinations that have meaning to you and your loved one like a birthday or anniversary. They love sending feathers and coins. Also, pay attention to what your awareness is gravitating towards like a bird, a flower, or a song that you can’t get out of your head. They usually carry a message as well.

  • A loved one’s birthday or anniversary. Example: September 7th, can show up as 9:07 am or $9.07
  • Feathers
  • Coins
  • Flowers
  • Inside jokes
  • Song lyrics or quotes

6. Colors

Colors can be very powerful and are great at shifting energy. What colors come up when you think of the mood you want to create for your board? You can also tie in different chakras you want to work on, with the color associated with that specific chakra. If you’re not familiar with chakras, they are the seven main energy centers that represent where the physical and metaphysical meet. They start at the base of your spine with the root chakra and go up to the crown of your head for the crown chakra. Below you will find the seven chakras and a few things they’re associated with.

  • Red: Root Chakra- Grounding, stability, feeling secure.
  • Orange: Sacral Chakra- Creativity, sexual energy and emotional stability.
  • Yellow: Solar Plexus Chakra- Confidence, will power and ambition.
  • Green: Heart Chakra- Nurturing, compassion, love and emotional balance.
  • Blue: Throat Chakra- Communication, speaking your truth and expression.
  • Purple/Indigo: Third Eye Chakra- Intuition, inner wisdom and imagination.
  • Gold/Violet: Crown Chakra- Divine connection, transcendence and enlightenment.

Crystals can be used for spiritual healing, energy balancing and protecting. Set the tone and choose a crystal that can help with the energy you want to bring in or see which crystal calls you in. Below are a few common crystals.

If you are new to astrology, why not include your big three: Sun, Moon and Rising signs. Maybe you’ve been studying astrology for years, include the big themes from your solar return chart. It could help set the direction of where your year is going.

Examples:

  • Transiting Pluto conjunct natal Venus
  • Solar Return Ascendant in your 7th house
  • Transiting North Node opposite natal Chiron
  • Sun sign: Taurus, Moon sign: Cancer, Rising sign: Pisces

9. Universal Themes

The universal stage also gets to go through changes every year. A few ways to figure out the energy of the upcoming year is through; Numerology, calculating the Universal Year Path by adding up the numbers in the current year and reducing to a single digit. The Chinese zodiac, goes through a 12-year cycle of the 12 zodiac animals and is combined with a 60-year cycle of the five elements. Then you have the major astrological transits, some years have more star power than others.

  • Universal Numerology Year: 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10 (path 1)
  • Chinese Zodiac: February 2026 (Fire Horse)
  • Major Astrological transits for 2026: Saturn moving into Aries, Neptune moving into Aries, Uranus moving into Gemini, Chiron moving into Taurus, Jupiter moving into Leo and finally, the North Node and South Node moving into Aquarius and Leo.

10. Set an Intention

The real magic is in setting an intention with your chart and letting the Universe know what you want it to bring you and focusing your energy on it.

  • I set the intention that this year will be for my highest good.
  • I set the intention to be the highest version of my current self.
  • I set the intention to get a raise and job promotion by October.
  • I set the intention that I will be more outgoing this year.
